Loan apps are the most downloaded apps in Kenya, making up the majority in the Top 50 list. A July report on the most downloaded apps on Google Play Store in Kenya ranked 18 loaner apps in the top 50 most downloaded apps.
Safaricom’s new Mpesa app took the top spot, followed by the phone company’s MySafaricom app. TikTok Lite, the smallest option in the popular social network, took third place. AsapCash, Kashway, LionCash, Apesa, Kopesha, CreditHela and Lcash took the rest of the seven places in the top 10.

Along with other top 20 loaner apps, Kenyans also downloaded Jumia, the e-commerce app, Showmax Entertainment, Opera News, and Opera Mini, as well as the BoomPlay music app from Google Play Store.
Social media apps have appeared in the top 30 with TikTok leading the pack. Instagram Lite, Facebook Lite and Whatsapp followed with TrueCaller. VPN apps appear to be on-demand as well, with Suf VPN, NightOwl VPN Pro, and VPN Master appearing in the top 50.
In terms of usage, loaner apps lead the way with the most installs and active users.
