Arsenal star names Manchester United’s Paul Pogba as his toughest opponent

Arsenal star Emile Smith Rowe has named Paul Pogba as one of the best players he has played against.

Smith Rowe enjoyed a breakthrough season under Mikel Arteta after loan spells with RB Leipzig and Huddersfield Town in recent seasons.

The 20-year-old has been mooted as a potential gatecrasher for Gareth Southgate’s European Championship side this summer but for now he remains in the Under-21 setup.

Early in his Premier League career, Smith Rowe appointed Manchester United star Pogba as one of the trickiest opponents he has faced.

“Paul Pogba is definitely up there,” he told Mail Online. “So strong, so good technically.

“Jack Grealish too. He’s so good, man. I admire him. The way he is with the ball.

“The way he scores, assists and creates, he’s so good. Bukayo [Saka] tells me he’s a great guy too.”

Pogba had an instant impact on his return to the first team after six weeks out through injury, scoring the winning goal as United beat AC Milan 1-0 Thursday night.

The Frenchman has one year left on his current contract, leaving the club with little choice but to sell the World Cup winner if he refuses to sign new terms this summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remained coy on the subject when asked about Pogba’s future this week.

“I think everyone in the team, including Paul, is just focused on giving their best this season,” Solskjaer said. “I don’t think any energy is used for speculation.

“Of course we have discussions and discussions. When you see Paul playing like tonight, when you see him coming back to training, it shows how much he cares about us and how much he loves playing and how much point we can benefit from having him here.”
